Philly Cheesesteak sandwich

Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches are iconic for their savory beef, melted cheese, and flavorful toppings, all served on a soft hoagie roll. Here’s a recipe to make them:

Ingredients:

For the Steak:

  • 1 pound thinly sliced ribeye steak (you can ask your butcher to slice it for you)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 4 to 6 slices provolone cheese

For Serving:

  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
  • Optional toppings: sautéed mushrooms, hot peppers, pickles, mayonnaise, ketchup, etc.

Instructions:

  1. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Season the thinly sliced ribeye steak with salt and black pepper to taste.
  3. Add the vegetable oil to the hot skillet or griddle. Once hot, add the seasoned ribeye steak slices in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until browned and slightly crispy on the edges. Flip the steak slices and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes on the other side. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced onion and green bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and lightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven’s broiler.
  6. Split the hoagie rolls or sub rolls lengthwise, but not all the way through. Place them on a baking sheet, cut side up.
  7. Place a portion of the cooked ribeye steak on each hoagie roll. Top with a portion of the sautéed onions and green peppers.
  8. Place 1 or 2 slices of provolone cheese over the steak and vegetables on each sandwich.
  9. Place the baking sheet under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Remove the sandwiches from the oven. Optionally, add any desired toppings such as sautéed mushrooms, hot peppers, pickles, mayonnaise, or ketchup.
  11. Close the hoagie rolls and serve the Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches hot.

Enjoy your delicious homemade Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches! They’re perfect for a satisfying lunch or dinner.
