Philly Cheesesteak sandwich
Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches are iconic for their savory beef, melted cheese, and flavorful toppings, all served on a soft hoagie roll. Here’s a recipe to make them:
Ingredients:
For the Steak:
- 1 pound thinly sliced ribeye steak (you can ask your butcher to slice it for you)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 4 to 6 slices provolone cheese
For Serving:
- 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
- Optional toppings: sautéed mushrooms, hot peppers, pickles, mayonnaise, ketchup, etc.
Instructions:
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Season the thinly sliced ribeye steak with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Add the vegetable oil to the hot skillet or griddle. Once hot, add the seasoned ribeye steak slices in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until browned and slightly crispy on the edges. Flip the steak slices and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes on the other side. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced onion and green bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and lightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
- Preheat your oven’s broiler.
- Split the hoagie rolls or sub rolls lengthwise, but not all the way through. Place them on a baking sheet, cut side up.
- Place a portion of the cooked ribeye steak on each hoagie roll. Top with a portion of the sautéed onions and green peppers.
- Place 1 or 2 slices of provolone cheese over the steak and vegetables on each sandwich.
- Place the baking sheet under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove the sandwiches from the oven. Optionally, add any desired toppings such as sautéed mushrooms, hot peppers, pickles, mayonnaise, or ketchup.
- Close the hoagie rolls and serve the Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches hot.
Enjoy your delicious homemade Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches! They’re perfect for a satisfying lunch or dinner.
